The Paws & Whiskers Fund

The Paws & Whiskers Fund was established to provide free and reduced cost veterinary care to rescued cats and dogs in our local area. WAH works with the Animal Protection Society of Durham and other local rescue groups to find wonderful adoptable pets that need dentistry services or heartworm treatment. We also work with the Durham chapter of Vets to Vets United to help care for pets in their program.

The Paws & Whiskers Fund was started in memory of two of Dr. Hoover’s family dogs, a beagle named Dixie and a plot hound mix named Tiger (both pictured to the left). Dixie had heartworms when she was rescued and Tiger was a stray that was hit by a car in front of WAH. With treatment, both dogs lived long and happy lives as beloved family members in the Hoover household. WAH would like to help other local dogs and cats find their perfect forever homes as well.

Westside Animal Hospital is the primary contributor to the Paws & Whiskers Fund, but outside donations are gladly accepted. Your tax-deductible gift will be matched dollar for dollar by WAH. Funds are collected and managed by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation Veterinary Care Charitable Fund. If you would like to donate to the Dixie Fund, click the button below.
